Everyone will be pleased to hear that the Walhalla Goldfields Railway has been successful in securing DH37 from QR [Mackay]. This loco is one of the last four DHs owned by QR. The loco is complete and was operational a few years back so is still in fair condition. Obviously, the loco is 3’6” gauge so will need to be converted to 2’6” gauge. Puffing Billy has re-gauged two of these locos for their use so the precedent has been set. In our business plan for extending to Erica, the DH class loco is identified as being most suitable. DH37 will provide the WGR with the motive power it needs for the long term future of the railway. The loco has been shipped from Mackay and is now stored at Walhalla where a short section of 3'6" track has been laid. When funds are available DH37 will be re-gauged to 2’6” however this could be some distance down the track [excuse the pun].
